According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 11 demonstrators were detained during the rally against the Russian law on April 16, 2024. However, this number is not final, as the police continue to unlawfully interfere with citizens' right to assembly, detaining peaceful demonstrators and, in some cases, subjecting them to severe physical assaults. Despite numerous attempts, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has not provided lawyers with information about the whereabouts of the detainees.
We call on the Ministry of Internal Affairs to cease the physical violence against peaceful demonstrators and to immediately provide lawyers with information about the whereabouts of those detained. We also urge the Special Investigation Service to investigate the alleged crimes committed by police officers.
