Feminist Forum 2024 "Power and Powerlessness - Authoritarian Turn, Populism and the layers of Resistance" (Part II - In-person meeting)

Start Date : 13 September 2024

On September 13, we invite you to the Feminist Forum, where you will be able to participate in panel discussions and workshops. On the spot, you will get acquainted with the publication of the Feminist Forum, which combines various textual and visual works around the main topic of the forum.

To attend the forum, it is necessary to fill out the registration form: https://forms.gle/gPfyZxqgpBwtcoF58

This year’s forum is conceptualized around the themes of power and powerlessness. The current political crisis, flowing in tandem with a set of laws, both initiated and adopted, stands in relation to local, regional and global political and economic changes. Only an intersectional analysis of this crisis as a whole reveals the motives for centralizing power and sheds light on the techno-political project, which is nourished by the laws introduced in 2024, turns the state into an asset of a ruling oligarch and his team, and transforms common environments into resources of prosperity for the capitalist class. In the existing geographical, political or economic dichotomies, an analysis of this set of laws is a prerequisite for going beyond these dualities and engaging with the concepts of neo-conservatism, populism, authoritarian rule and the accumulation of wealth in the hands of the capitalist class, as well as for understanding what our futures can hold.

We will start September 13 by examining Georgia’s authoritarian turn in the global economic context where the ongoing events in Georgia exemplify imperialist hoarding of resources.

In the afternoon, as is tradition, we will devote time to feminist research methods and action. In the parallel workshops, Xaraxura will talk to us about making protest posters, Elene Duduchava and Sandro Siamashvili will guide us in telling the stories of our bodies with a visual language, and in Tata Burduli’s workshop, we will dive into texts using intertextuality and weave webs between them.

In these workshops we - ourselves - will become the source of discussion. Bodily and reflexive feelings will transition into our final panel discussion. At the end of the day, moderated by Ana Iluridze, IAMNIKITA, Lika Gulbani and Mariam Tchantchaleishvili will speak about precarity, affect, queer bodies and marginalisation.
