Performance as a form of Activism

Start Date : 11 March 2017

Mareike Wenzel is an actress and performance artist from Berlin, Germany. For the past ten years, she has been part of the Danish/Austrian performance company SIGNA, working on large scale site-specific, immersive performances. Apart from her work with SIGNA she devises own performances, many of them dealing with gender and social issues. Recently, Mareike has set up the children's theatre company Aitsona-Daitsona in Tbilisi, following the example of GRIPS theatre, a renowned alternative, emancipatory theatre for children in Berlin.

On the 11th of March, Mareike will first discuss her work, followed by the presentation of Aitsona-Daitsona's first play "Sakhlobana". A play for young people from the age of 6 but also for grown-ups. The play deals with gender stereotypes and domestic violence.
